Gun Scabbard

The Safety Scabbard is designed to be mounted to your ATV, Golf Cart, or Hunting Vehicle in a safe upright position. Shooting sports, Sporting Clays, and other shotgun, rifle, and long-gun organizations require the firearm to be stored in a safe vertical upright position. The technology of the Safety Scabbard achieves this in the primary step of our engineered design process. In addition to this recognized “barrel-up” safety practice, the second criteria in the development of the Safety Scabbard is trigger concealment.

The Safety Scabbard is designed to accept your long-gun, shotgun or rifle trigger first. Once your rifle or shotgun is properly placed in the Safety Scabbard, the trigger is virtually impossible to access.

With personal safety being properly addressed, the next order of business is protection of your long-gun. Be it a shotgun, double barrel, over-under, side by side, auto loader, pump action, rifle, scope-mounted rifle, bolt-action, automatic, pellet-gun or elephant-gun.

We researched a broad array of shotguns and rifles in order to engineer the unique design of the Safety Scabbard. We engineered a subtle spring action into the tapered aluminum shell and combined this taper with a varied thickness of foam padding in order to achieve a firm soft grip along the length of your shotgun or rifle. This system eliminates any abrasive rubbing action that could damage the finish of your valued shotgun or rifle. In addition to this engineered weapon holder system, we incorporated a webbing strap at the top end of the Safety Scabbard. The strap wraps around the barrel of your long-gun and locks with a hook and loop system, back onto itself, further securing your favorite long-gun with 100 pounds of locking force.

Two additional features are: a section along the side of the aluminum shell that has micro-tabs in the bottom of each of two v-shaped grooves at the outer edge on the right side of the Safety Scabbard. These micro-tabs may be popped loose and the section folded out to allow additional space for the bolt of bolt-action rifles and automatic shotguns. This is accomplished without removing the padded water-resistant liner.
The final feature is the two stainless steel ¼- 20 NCT threaded inserts along the backside, used to secure the Safety Scabbard to your Golf cart, ATV, tractor, or favorite hunting or recreational vehicle.

In closing, I would like to briefly share with you the last part of my product development process, a unique name for a unique product.

I wrote a list of everything I could think of pertaining to guns and weapons then cross-referenced these with a thesaurus. The one unique word was “Scabbard”, (Webster’s Definition: to put into a scabbard sheath; “Sheath” - any similar close-fitting covering or case.) The problem with these words is the 1st definition of scabbard according to Webster is “ a sheath for the sword or the like”; “ Sheath – “ a case or covering for the blade of a sword.” Even though the first definition did not reference a sword or blade, I justified Scabbard by putting guns in the same category as knives and swords - “weaponry”. When I searched the web for scabbards, all I came up with was swords and knives.

Totally confused, I took my dilemma to three different committees of friends and associates. No one liked “scabbard” in the beginning, however in the end; it was agreed “Scabbard” (a close fitting sheath) was the name to brand this product. So be it.

Five short years later, a search of “scabbard” results in a multitude of competitors and potential partners. I guess they know a good thing when they see it.
